ICT

We have extensive ICT facilities enabling technology to be purposefully integrated throughout the curriculum. Children are taught essential skills around areas such as word processing, data handling and graphic design. Children are actively encouraged to apply these to enhance their learning throughout the curriculum. We are proud to develop their technical competence, creativity and ability to solve problems through exciting multi-media projects, podcasting and film.

Music

Children of all ages are given a rich variety of opportunities to develop personal excellence and enjoyment of this subject. We enjoy close links with the Blackpool Music Service and offer an extensive range of extra-curricular activities including instrumental tuition, drama and choir. Our talented musicians perform regularly throughout Blackpool and beyond.

Physical Education

An excellent programme of physical education, including an extensive range of extra-curricular sporting activities, keeps children active, fit and healthy. Our greatly enhanced facilities include an indoor sports hall, expansive playing fields, a purpose built all weather outdoor multi-use games court and exciting trim trails in both playgrounds. In addition, the school utilises swimming facilities at a local pool. Children in Year 6 have the opportunity to experience outdoor adventure pursuits during an activity holiday.

Art

Through Art we aim to stimulate children’s creativity and imagination. Children are encouraged to become visually perceptive and through a wide and varied range of art, craft and design experiences are encouraged to develop their own artistic skills and talents. Artists in Residence and visits to art galleries broaden and enrich children’s learning, giving each child a chance to shine.

PSHE Development

The development of personal and social skills is also given high priority, with children encouraged to work collaboratively, to take on roles of responsibility and to show self-discipline, perseverance and a positive attitude. It is seen as central to the education of our children and permeates the whole curriculum.
Cross–curricular themes contribute to personal and social development as do pastoral care, organisation of the school and the quality of relationships between all members of our school community.

Our philosophy of emphasising the talents, skills and positive achievements of children does much to develop self-confidence and a positive self-image, essential to learning and to personal growth.

Sex & Relationships

Sex Education is delivered through the science curriculum and through personal, social and health education. We aim to help children cope with the emotional challenges of growing up and give them an elementary understanding of bodily changes and reproduction. The subject is handled sensitively as children progress through school and is presented in a caring, moral and family orientated framework. All discussions take place in a manner appropriate to the age and maturity of the children. Specific teaching is given to children in Year 6 by the school nurse when video resources, specifically designed for primary aged children are available.

Parents are kept fully informed and may, upon written application, withdraw their child from these lessons.
