Food And Drink

A daily breakfast is provided free of charge for every child. Our Learning Council was consulted over the menu and from the choices given has chosen a daily menu of: fruit juice, a piece of fresh fruit and either a bagel, piece of malt loaf or a cereal bar (alternating daily over the week).

Freshly cooked school meals are available daily, offering a choice of healthy menus. Drinks are provided and a salad bar is available. With the exception of children in our Nursery, school lunches are eaten in the hall where children are encouraged to be polite and to show good manners.

Payment for school lunches should be made in advance on a Monday morning, by cash or cheque (made payable to Blackpool Council). Please send all payments in a sealed envelope, labelled with your child’s name and class. ParentPay is also accepted. Details of the cost are forwarded at the start of each school year.

Packed Lunches

Alternatively, children may bring a packed lunch or go home for dinner. For safety reasons, cans, glass bottles or flasks are not allowed in packed lunches. Also, as school does not have the means to provide cool storage, care should be taken when choosing the contents of your child’s meal. We advise that dairy products are only included when the lunch box has a cooling device.

Drinks in School

As part of our commitment to the Healthy Schools Project, water is available for children at all times throughout the day. In addition, all children are provided with a small carton of refrigerated milk.

Fruit Scheme

Playtime snacks are not allowed. However, to encourage healthy eating, children in Key Stage 1 and Foundation Stage receive a free piece of fruit each day.

Free School Meals

Free school meals are available to some children according to family income. It’s important to register for entitlement to free school meals, even if your child has a packed lunch – this is so we can receive additional funding (called The Pupil Premium) which we can use to help your child.

Children are entitled to Free School Meals if their parents, carers or guardians receive any of the following:

  • Income Support
  • Income Based Job Seekers Allowance
  • Income Related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Guarantee Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit, but not Working Tax Credit, and an annual income lower than the limit set by the Government
  • Working Tax Credit Run On because you have ceased work or reduced your working hours to less than 16 per week
  • If you receive support under part VI of the Immigration & Asylum Act 1999

To find out if your child qualifies for free school meals, and for any help or advice, telephone the Claims Team on 01253 478940 who may be able to process your application over the telephone.
